The history of Fonscolombe Castle Three centuries of Art de Vivre in Provence
Built in the 18th century in the Quattrocento style, hidden between Sainte Victoire and Mont Ventoux, the Château de Fonscolombe embodies the refinement of a vast family home, imbued with the spirit of the Marquises of Saporta and Fonscolombe, illustrious humanists and men of science of the time, who left their mark on the history of the place.
The listed park, an essential emblem of the estate and the legacy of botanist Gaston de Saporta, is home to nearly 180 species of trees and plants. The Queen Mother of England once planted a majestic Atlas cedar tree there, which still watches over travelers today.
Carefully restored since then, you can stroll through a resolutely Provençal setting, chic and rustic, enhanced here and there by Genoese leather, Chinese wallpaper, and Provençal plasterwork. Three centuries of French history resonate within these walls, offering an enchanting setting where life flows gently.
At Château de Fonscolombe, some traditions are whispered... others resonate. Every day, the castle bell marks two precious moments: at 11:11 a.m., it celebrates our heritage and invites us to pause for a moment; at 4:00 p.m., it calls us to indulge in the simple pleasure of a shared snack.
